COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
POSITION OVERVIEW
THE INTERSTELLAR COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION IS SEEKING A DEEP SPACE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN LONG-RANGE COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS WITHIN THE CORPORATE RELAY STATION NETWORK. THIS POSITION IS BASED AT GATEWAY STATION WITH ROTATIONAL ASSIGNMENTS TO REMOTE RELAY INSTALLATIONS POSITIONED ALONG PRIMARY INTERSTELLAR SHIPPING LANES. THE OFFICER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROCESSING ALL INBOUND AND OUTBOUND INTERSTELLAR COMMUNICATIONS TRAFFIC, MAINTAINING FTL COMM-BURST TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER ARRAYS, AND ENSURING CONTINUOUS SIGNAL INTEGRITY ACROSS RELAY CHAINS SPANNING MULTIPLE PARSECS. DEEP SPACE COMMUNICATIONS FORM THE BACKBONE OF ALL CORPORATE, COLONIAL, AND MILITARY OPERATIONS BEYOND THE SOL SYSTEM — WITHOUT RELIABLE RELAY INFRASTRUCTURE, VESSELS AND COLONIES OPERATE BLIND.
THE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER MUST BE PROFICIENT IN SUBSPACE SIGNAL PROCESSING, ANTENNA ARRAY CALIBRATION, AND ENCRYPTED TRAFFIC HANDLING FOR CORPORATE AND ICC CLASSIFIED CHANNELS. RELAY STATION ASSIGNMENTS INVOLVE SMALL-CREW ENVIRONMENTS OF 4 TO 12 PERSONNEL, REQUIRING STRONG SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND ABILITY TO PERFORM EQUIPMENT REPAIRS WITHOUT IMMEDIATE TECHNICAL SUPPORT. THE POSITION OFFERS UNIQUE EXPOSURE TO CUTTING-EDGE FTL COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AND DIRECT INVOLVEMENT IN THE EXPANSION OF HUMANITY'S INTERSTELLAR COMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE. SPACE RADIO OPERATORS AT THIS LEVEL ARE AMONG THE MOST TECHNICALLY SKILLED SPECIALISTS IN THE CORPORATE FLEET AND RECEIVE COMMENSURATELY COMPETITIVE COMPENSATION AND ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- ▶OPERATE PRIMARY AND BACKUP FTL COMM-BURST TRANSMITTER ARRAYS, COORDINATING TRANSMISSION WINDOWS WITH RELAY CHAIN SCHEDULING PROTOCOLS
- ▶PROCESS AND ROUTE INTERSTELLAR COMMUNICATIONS TRAFFIC INCLUDING CORPORATE DATA STREAMS, COLONY ADMINISTRATIVE DISPATCHES, AND ICC EMERGENCY BROADCASTS
- ▶MONITOR SIGNAL STRENGTH, BIT ERROR RATES, AND PROPAGATION DELAYS ACROSS ALL ACTIVE RELAY LINKS, INITIATING CORRECTIVE ALIGNMENT PROCEDURES AS NEEDED
- ▶PERFORM SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON ANTENNA ARRAYS, SIGNAL AMPLIFIERS, AND WAVEGUIDE ASSEMBLIES, INCLUDING EVA OPERATIONS FOR EXTERNAL ARRAY SERVICING
- ▶MANAGE ENCRYPTED COMMUNICATIONS CHANNELS FOR CORPORATE CLASSIFIED TRAFFIC AND ICC MILITARY COORDINATION FREQUENCIES
- ▶DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR COMMUNICATIONS HARDWARE FAILURES, INCLUDING POWER SUPPLY UNITS, RF MODULES, AND DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSORS
- ▶MAINTAIN COMMUNICATIONS LOGS AND TRAFFIC ANALYSIS REPORTS IN COMPLIANCE WITH ICC INTERSTELLAR COMMUNICATIONS REGULATIONS
- ▶COORDINATE DISTRESS SIGNAL RESPONSE PROTOCOLS AND RELAY EMERGENCY POSITION DATA TO SEARCH AND RESCUE ASSETS
REQUIREMENTS
- ▶BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING, SIGNALS ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, OR RELATED FIELD
- ▶MINIMUM 3 YEARS EXPERIENCE OPERATING OR MAINTAINING LONG-RANGE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS IN AEROSPACE, MILITARY, OR COMMERCIAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS
- ▶ICC COMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR CERTIFICATION (CLASS I DEEP SPACE) — MANDATORY
- ▶PROFICIENCY IN RF SIGNAL PROCESSING, ANTENNA THEORY, AND DIGITAL MODULATION TECHNIQUES (QAM, OFDM, SPREAD SPECTRUM)
- ▶EXPERIENCE WITH ENCRYPTED COMMUNICATIONS PROTOCOLS AND CLASSIFIED INFORMATION HANDLING PROCEDURES
- ▶EVA CERTIFICATION FOR EXTERNAL ANTENNA MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS — REQUIRED FOR RELAY STATION ASSIGNMENTS
- ▶MEDICAL CLEARANCE FOR DEEP SPACE ASSIGNMENT AND HYPERSLEEP TRANSIT (W-Y MEDICAL FORM DS-7)
- ▶W-Y CORPORATE SECURITY CLEARANCE LEVEL 3 OR ELIGIBILITY (LEVEL 4 FOR CLASSIFIED CHANNEL ACCESS)
